'Big Brother' becoming big bother for one viewer

The boyfriend of San Antonio's entry in CBS-TV's "Big Brother 2" is finding it harder and harder on his heart to watch the thrice-weekly show.
That's because his statuesque girlfriend of more than a year, Clark High graduate and S.A. native Shannon Dragoo, appears to have captured the fancy of another contestant: a handsome doctor named Will.
Both Will and Shannon have gotten high approval ratings from viewers and are favorites to go the distance in the reality show, which has 12 strangers living together in a California house in an effort to win $500,000.
But the guy who's been dating Shannon (she's a model and former cover girl for the San Antonio-based Texas Swimsuit Calendar) for 16 months in real life doesn't exactly approve of doc Will.
"He's acting a little forward," Jim Walls said Monday morning from his family's home in New Jersey. "He likes Shannon a little more than I'd like him to."
In fact, Will and Shannon, 28 and 29 respectively, have become the chummiest man-woman duo of the dozen so far; at least that's what's been indicated on both the Thursday premiere and Saturday edition of the show. Will, who's as buff as he is bright (he says he's attended law school and business school as well as medical school) has been highly complimentary of Shannon, has sought her out repeatedly, has mentioned how easy it is to talk to her. He's predicted that she will outlast most, if not all, of the others in the house and be among the final three — if not the big winner of the jackpot.
Of course, her real boyfriend, Walls, a professional volleyball competitor who's described as a well-built looker in his own right, said he realizes "Big Brother 2" is just a TV show that's out for good ratings.
"I only see what they put on television," he said, noting that even if Shannon had turned to the camera in one of the tapings and indicated to him "not to worry, that she's with me only," they wouldn't air that bit of sentimentality.
"They'd edit that," he reasoned. "It wouldn't make good television."
Walls, who, at 23, is more than five years Shannon's junior, said he has faith in his girlfriend and her judgment. However, if he had his way, he would be able to talk to her during the many ensuing weeks of the show. The rules, of course, prevent that; the contestants are sequestered during their time in the house.
"It's really hard not to talk to her, knowing she's there," said Walls, who resides in Fort Lauderdale along with Shannon, who moved there from San Antonio four years ago. "I'd like to help keep her safe, give her peace of mind."
Although Walls' pals advise him not to watch the show, he admits, "I'm curious George and I'd rather see what's going on. ... I'll watch with open eyes and an open heart and hope she feels my vibes and that they let her know I love her."
"But I don't feel good about it at all," he acknowledges.
How do Shannon's parents, Lloyd and Cynthia Dragoo, who live near Fiesta Texas, feel all this will play out? Although Will seems a good catch and would be a convenient beau for their daughter (he lives fairly close by in Miami), Shannon's mom believes the relationship built up between her daughter and the doc is just for show, for TV.
She describes Walls as "a good guy, tall, big and muscular. ... I don't think he has anything to worry about."
Still, it must be painful to watch your beloved being wooed on national TV by a guy she's sharing a house with for weeks on end. |

And did anyone notice how her mother's comment primarily revolved around the way Will looks as opposed to the kind of person he is?

Anyone here who likes Will and Shannon raise their hand....I didn't think so. That quote about them makes me want to vomit because that's exactly what they think themselves. UUUGHHH!!!!

What they show aon T.V. is nothing compared to what goes on. For instance, Shannon grabbing his "hog" all the time. |

Thursday's show did get high arbitron ratings, tops in the time slot with 9 million viewers. Mike and Shannon, however, score lowest in viewer polls among all participants. |

the mayor of Bunky's town was quoted in the paper saying very harsh things about him being gay and representing the town on TV. Sounded a lot like Kent's early remarks if I remember right. I think it's in the press thread. |

Perhaps they were basing their ratings opinions on the numbers that were showing on the CBS website the first week. Those numbers kinda remained high for Shannon/Will all week.
HOWEVER, if one goes to the Interactive Popularity polls or Poll Tracings (follow some link thru the CBS site), one can see WILL has nosedived, Shannon gone down some (but not much) and I think even Mike has lost some ground.
While the interactive polls may not be entirely accurate, they're more accurate than the polls sitting on top for the week. |

Click on the "show" x on the side then run your curser over the name. That way you will see the line for just that houseguest instead of that jumble of lines that makes no sense. |
