6/22/04 Episode #1 Recap: The show begins with a "teaser" for the season.... The song is a cover of the Men at Work song "Down Under" - then we meet all the ladies with quotes from many showing how "City," they are. Talk of makeovers, clothing, fashion, five star hotels, and on and on. "I love to be treated like a queen," is an example. Somewhere in the US - I assume the LA area, the ladies are all driven up to a mansion in three limos and are sooooo excited. They assume this is where they will be staying for the show. JD Roberto comes out to meet then in front of the mansion. He asks if they are ready to meet their bachelor and all respond "yes" - he informs them that the bachelor is NOT at the mansion, that he is halfway around the world in Australia - this results in cheers from the ladies who think they will now be wined and dined Aussie style. Off they go on a plan and land in Australia. In Sydney the ladies are taken to a hanger and JD is standing out in front of a small plane - they are all in evening wear and pulling their suitcases. Its here that JD reveals they will be jumping from the plane. They are all given pink jump suits and squeeze into them. There is much apprehension among the ladies. Never the less they all climb aboard and jump out at 10,000 feet. Back from commercial we hear several comments and LOTS of screams from the ladies as they prepare to jump. Laura relates that she is not scared of jumping, she is scared of messing up her face..... Others say that the guy they are jumping for better be worth it. By the time they get close to the ground (they were all harnessed to other pro-skydivers) they are all smiles and upon landing they all great and hug each other. Mary asks if her hair is messed up, Courtney comments that she could not see a shopping mall anywhere.
The girls are all back in their eveningwear with suitcases - and JD introduces "Outback Jack" Jack approaches them slowly with the sun at his back, he introduces himself and welcomes them to the Outback. All the ladies seem to be pleased with what they find. They all proceed across the plain and Jack helps several of them with their suitcases. One lady asks if they are walking to the resort? Soon after they discover that there is no resort - just a camp.
Jack helps cover all the women in mosquito netting as they go to sleep for the night - in the morning they rise and the complaining begins yet again. Jack says he can tell they were all pampered girls - but he hadn't realized how pampered.
Mary is the first shown talking to Jack - she is in high heels and full make-up - she sings a song for Jack that she obviously wrote herself - he is flattered - and by the way she does have a nice voice. I have a feeling Mary is going to be around for a long time. Clips of the other girls talking to Jack are also shown but honestly nothing of importance was shown. Natasha is shown expressing her concerns but tells jack she is willing to stay on. In the morning Marissa returns to the group - some suspect she might be at an advantage because of her illness. Everyone proceeds to a stream/river where they find canoe's - there are not enough seats for all the women so Jack must eliminate four. With about as much word play as he can muster Jack keeps some and eliminates others - he used the word 'unfortunately' a lot - both for those he kept and those that left. Lillian is the first eliminated.
Next week two more ladies go. |
